Bedri Baykam is one of Turkey’s internationally most reputed artists and intellectuals. He has had international exhibitions from the age of six up to today in Bern, Geneva, New York, Washington, Paris, London, Rome, Munich, Stockholm, San Francisco, Berlin to name a few.
He studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris and received his MBA degree. During this time, he also studied drama in L’Actorat, Paris. He lived in California during the years 1980-1987. He studied painting and film-making at the CCAC, in California. He has had several shows in New York, California and Paris. Baykam returned to Turkey in 1987.
He has had 134 solo-exhibitions around the world in addition to participating in numerous group shows. Baykam is one of the pioneers of the New-Expressionism movement and of multi-media and photo-painting oriented political art. He is the author of 25 published books, two feature film scripts and there are 50 catalogues and 7 books about his works.
He is the co-founder and current President of UNESCO/AIAP-IAA, International Association of Artists, Turkish National Committee (UPSD). The artist was elected as the World President at 18th UNESCO-IAA/AIAP General Assembly at Plzen in 2015. Baykam also has been a columnist for several Turkish publications such as Tempo, Siyah-Beyaz, Aydınlık and Cumhuriyet among others. He is one of the central characters of the artistic and political milieu in Turkey. The artist is the founder (2006) of Piramid Sanat (art center) in Taksim Square in Istanbul.
